MEDICO LEGAL

This part of my practice continues to increase. I started writing clinical negligence reports in 2011. It is an area I find interesting and intellectually challenging.

I have a great deal of experience in medico-legal cases over the last 12 years or so, providing expert witness opinions for both claimants and defendants as necessary.

I specialise in all clinical negligence reports, Breach and Causation, and Life Expectancy.

I currently receive approximately 80 new instructions per year. These cover the whole spectrum including the cardiac aspects of personal injury, medical negligence, fitness to attend court or stand trial, HM Coroners enquiries, and GMC fitness to practice panels as well as advising NHS Trusts on competence. I have assessed individuals in HM Prisons on occasions.

My claimant/defendant ratio for clinical negligence cases is approximately 65/35 but this figure is fluid and depends on when in the year I am being asked. I have also completed 6 to 10 Joint Reports.

I am comfortable giving expert evidence in court, having given evidence on more than 10 occasions.

I have obtained my Cardiff University Law School Expert Witness Diploma.

I have given several lectures on Medico-Legal matters in Cardiology for AVMA, and to doctors in training.

I was the Lead for The Medico-Legal Group of the London Consultants Association.
